Coimbatore is situated in the western region of Tamil Nadu state in South India, right next to the state of Kerala. It is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu and one of the highly industrialized cities in India. Considered the motorsports capital of India, Coimbatore has produced numerous national champions and successful international race and rally drivers while also boasting one of three internationally recognized racetracks in the country where national and international championship events are held throughout the year. Coimbatore is blessed with a pleasant climate, low humidity, warm summer, and a short and mild winter. Surrounded by natural and wildlife reserves, patients have the opportunity to recuperate in communion with nature. Ooty (also called as Udhagamandalam)
Ooty is known as the ‘Queen of hill stations’. It is situated in the Western Ghats, and is one of the most popular tourist spots in India. The drive to Ooty is filled with scenic views and tea gardens. Popular spots in Ooty include Botanical Gardens, Lake, Dodabetta Peak, Pycara Dam, Ooty Lake and Coonoor. Accommodations ranging from budget hotels to 5-star hotels are available. The Nilgiris Mountain Railway is one of the oldest railway lines in India, using steam locomotives in a narrow-gauge track – and is a World Heritage Attraction!
Botanical Gardens (Ooty)
The 55 Acre Botanical Garden was founded by John Sullivan, who is known to have first ‘discovered’ Ooty and built his summer dwelling there. The original purpose of the ‘Botanical Gardens’ was purely academic in nature, to promote and study the various flora in and around Nilgiris. Now, it is open to the public as a park that can be enjoyed by visitors. Botanical Garden is also a haven for bird watchers as a variety of birds can be sighted here.
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary
The Mudumalai Sanctuary lies on the northern and north-western side of the Nilgiris (Blue Mountains) about 80 km north-west of Coimbatore, bordering Kerala and Karnataka. It is spread over an area of 341 sq km. Asian Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Deer, Monkeys and variety of other wild animals and birds can be spotted here. There is a guided tour into the sanctuary with special vehicles. Accommodation includes a forest rest house and guest houses at Masinagudi, Kargudi, Abhayaranyam and Theppakkadu. Accommodation in the forest rest houses and guest houses may be reserved by writing to the Wildlife Warden, Mudumalai Sanctuary, Udhagamandalam, Tamil Nadu, India.
Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal is a hill station situated 138 kms from Coimbatore, in the southern tip of Palani Hills. Tourist attractions include the Lake, Boat Club, Bryant’s Park, Coaker’s Walk, etc.
Black Thunder (Water Theme Park)
This is situated in Mettupalayam and is one of the major water theme parks in India. It has many water rides and accommodation facilities.
Coimbatore is well connected with the rest of India by air, rail and road, and internationally to Singapore, though indirectly to many other international destinations through major hubs like Singapore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, making Ortho-One easily accessible world over.
